About the event
This 8-week class will meet once a week on Tuesdays for 8 weeks on the same day/time each week. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 4:00-4:50 except the class will meet on Wednesday, July 5th instead of Tuesday, July 4th. There will be 8 classes in total. This eight-week course teaches students how to program in a fun, game-like environment. This fun, engaging course allows students to learn programming skills at their own pace while they use problem-solving, programming concepts, and computational reasoning. The students will need to bring a laptop or tablet to the class.
Students will learn the foundations of programming: problem-solving, logic, and critical thinking. By learning these skills through the context of code, kids build essential 21st-century skills for life that empower them to become creators, not just consumers, of the technology. Learning programming empowers kids. Coding puts children in control of the computer and through experimentation builds mastery in sequencing skills, counting, problem-solving, logical thinking, cause and effect, and critical thinking. Additionally, children find it cool to create games, apps, and websites and can even learn to control robots. The earlier we introduce coding to children, the more comfortable they will become with computers and technology, and the more successful they will become when presented with more challenging learning opportunities. Children are extremely eager to learn how to code. Just like learning a foreign language, the language of coding should begin early with vocabulary terms such as program, sequence, and algorithm.
