One on One Tutoring

There are many situations where one on one tutoring will best meet the students' needs. Some benefits to one on one tutoring are:

  • The curriculum is designed solely around that student. The tutor is able to identify needs specific to that student only and can cater the needs for that child.

  • Sometimes students have a hard time focusing in a classroom setting with other classmates who can serve as a distraction. One on one tutoring allows for the student to be intently focused on one person and minimizes distractions.

  • Lessons can be adjusted midway to meet the unique needs of the individual child. Once the tutor sees a student is struggling with something, they can stop and offer reteaching and ensure the student masters the skills before moving on.

  • One on one tutoring can be more personal with just the tutor and student working together with the family.

  • With one-on-one tutoring, the tutor can develop a study plan to strengthen the students’ weaknesses . If the student is having trouble understanding a concept, the tutor can spend more time explaining the concept in a way that the student can understand.

  • The tutor also helps to build an infrastructure for studying at home that best suits the student own preferences for learning.

  • Another benefit of one-on-one tutoring is that each student can choose a tutor that best suits his or her liking. The session is a lot more enjoyable and more can be accomplished if the if the student likes the person who is tutoring him/her. The students will stay more focused on their work.

Tutoring Groups

Encompass has experienced great success in offering tutoring groups instead of one on one tutoring sessions. Here are many benefits to group tutoring sessions:

  • The curriculum development and time put into group sessions far exceeds individual sessions. Students are presented lessons that are more thoughtful, dynamic, and engaging versus one on one tutoring that others offer that is often working out of a simple workbook without a great deal of prep involved. Since the teacher is prepping for a group of students, it's normal to prep for several hours for one single session. The teacher finds it more worthwhile because these lessons will reach more students.

  • A big benefit to parents is the cost is kept much lower versus individual tutoring sessions. Since we are able to service several students at once, we can cut our costs and pass the savings on to you. This means many of our parents who could not afford one on one tutoring, get instruction that's more effective and productive for a much lower price.  Encompass loves that they are able to meet more students' needs this way by offering group tutoring and therefore, they don't have to turn as many kids away.

  • Students feel very bonded to their tutoring group. They become like a little family who cares for one another, supports and encourages one another, and gets to watch each other grow and learn. This makes them invested and wanting to return to tutoring groups.

  • In a group, students are able to interact with one another during the tutorial session, and this will provide them with the ability to ask questions and even respond to discussions later on.

  • Socializing is vital in the growth of a student, especially outside the four walls of the classroom. With group tutoring, this can be readily achieved because of how they interact with other people.

  • In a classroom-like environment, tutoring becomes very productive as many ears listen and many mouths share their thoughts. This enhances the tutoring process.

  • Students can learn from other students, especially in understanding more about a given topic. This enhancement focus will establish the dynamic role in the tutoring process.

  • Participation is encouraged. In one-on-one tutoring, the tutor does most of the talking. In group tutoring, the students are encouraged to take part in discussions, especially regarding concepts that require analysis.

  • Tutoring becomes very dynamic, as each individual develops in the process. Students are able to take the tutoring process as more than just a simple discourse between the tutor and the group, but as a session where everyone learns something through the power of interaction.

  • Students enjoy the social interaction. Very importantly, students ease up in group tutoring. They are comfortable among other people like them; hence, they are more willing to participate, answer questions and equally important, ask questions when something is not understood.

  • Focus is vital in the tutoring session, and with group tutoring, the tutor will direct the students to attain such focus. When everyone cooperates, the effect is strong to the point that effective development is achieved and focus becomes inevitable.
